Catalogue – Exhibition of the 5 centuries of Evangelisation and Encounter of Cultures
“The Catalogue starts by describing the building where the exhibition was held – Conciliar Seminary of São Pedro and São Paulo, in the Campo de Santiago. There is no shortage of references to the works that recovered the property at the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the following one. The excavations carried out within the interior cloister, where a Roman domus appeared, are also covered.
Next is the list of people who marked the scene of Portuguese missions, many of them perpetuated by sculptures, stained glass windows, paintings.
Liturgical objects, textiles and ornaments, linked to or inherited from this missionary enterprise, are also catalogued. Think of the so-called “Brazil Cross”…
Devotional objects and many sculptures were also catalogued. They are of unparalleled beauty and made of ivory, a material that is nowadays rare and highly noble.
